Vancouver: Animal Technician : Reporting to the Manager, Pre-Clinical Affairs, the Animal Technician will maintain in vitro cell cultures and assist in treating human xenograft models of cancer and daily operations of the vivarium. Responsibilities will include in vitro cell culture and maintenance of stocks of frozen tumor cell lines, in vivo tumor cell inoculation, minor surgeries, tumor measurements, all types of injections and blood collection, monitoring animal health and record keeping, writing standard operating procedures, animal husbandry and other related duties. The successful candidate will have a university degree or diploma in Animal Health Technology (or equivalent), and have already obtained RLAT or RLATR certification from the Canadian Association of Laboratory Animal Scientists (CALAS) OR willing to fulfill this requirement, plus a minimum 2 years cell culture and 3 years of related experience working with laboratory animals. Experience with in vitro cell culture, animal handling, husbandry techniques, knowledge of principles of disease transmission, prevention and control, blood collection, and computers are required. Must possess good organizational, interpersonal and communications skills (written, oral) observation skills with attention to detail and be self-motivated. Must be willing and able to share weekend/holiday hours, and be able to adjust schedule to facilitate workload within the department.
